UNIVERSITY OF NOTTINGHAM
FASHION SOCIETY PRESIDENT 22/23
When I became President of the University of Nottingham Fashion Society, I brought more than leadership. I brought a vision. One rooted in sustainability, ecology, and accessibility. We weren’t just about clothes. We were about community, culture, and change.
Fashion, to us, was a tool for storytelling. A platform for students to express identity, confront injustice, and reimagine possibility. That belief shaped everything we did.
We grew fast. Paid membership tripled from 100 to 300. This wasn’t luck. It was the result of targeted outreach and a clear message: everyone was welcome. Our society had become one of the most creative spaces on campus. We didn’t just attract fashion students. We brought in writers, stylists, photographers, and designers who shared a desire to create.
I led a team of 90 collaborators. Together, we produced two major fashion shows. Each event welcomed over 400 attendees. Our runways celebrated bold ideas and diverse voices. They weren’t just shows—they were statements.
Alongside this, I launched and edited our digital magazine on WordPress. It became a space for critical thought and creative work. Students wrote editorials, shared photo essays, and explored the role of fashion in identity and sustainability.
We also built meaningful partnerships. Collaborating with Lapse, Aether Magazine, and Hidden Warehouse, we provided members with access to industry platforms and opportunities beyond the campus.
As President, I also managed the society’s treasury. I made sure our resources were used with care. Every budget decision reflected our values—supporting eco-friendly production and equal access.
Leading the Fashion Society taught me that style encompasses more than mere appearance. It’s about intention. It’s about creating space, telling stories, and staying true to your values.
